Rewriting Young Futures in Rural India
In the rural town of Giddalur, in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, India, St John’s School is rewriting the futures of local children through education.
Since 2011, Flow Foundation has proudly supported the school’s mission to bring quality education to a community where it was once out of reach.
The school began with a bold vision from Karnas and Sandy Gosa—a husband-and-wife team inspired to start a school in Karnas’s birthplace. In 2010, St John’s was established with just 32 students and three teachers, grouped together in four open-sided tin shed classrooms.
Fifteen years later, that vision has flourished into a thriving school of 460 students, 35 teachers, and 15 permanent classrooms, serving families across a 40 km radius in the wider Giddalur region.
What began with a single van now includes three full-size buses that collect students daily—many of whom would otherwise have no access to formal education. Flow Foundation has been a cornerstone in this journey, funding the construction of all school buildings and, through a partner, purchasing a new 32-seater bus to support growing transport needs.
In 2025, the original class of 32 students graduated from St John’s. Many of whom are now preparing to enter higher education and, eventually, university. Without an education, these young people were destined for a life of agricultural or domestic labour, but now a new future has emerged.
St John’s is a Christian-based school guided by faith-driven values, yet it warmly welcomes children from all backgrounds and religions. By choosing to remain independent from government funding, the school retains autonomy over its principles, curriculum, and community-first approach.
Most recently, Flow Foundation has committed to funding the school’s entire annual operating budget—ensuring this vital work continues to enable bright futures for the children of Giddalur.
